Do you have a circle of support around you?

Do you have a circle of support around you?

A circle of support involves a group of people coming together to help formulate, promote and support the goals of a person with disability. The circle acts as a community of friendship and support around the person at the centre.

Inclusion Services at the Y can be an extremely important part of your circle of support. We offer various programs that cater to individual needs, including 1:1 home-based support and 1:1 community support including our  specialised NDIS Support Coordination service. We ensure that people with disabilities receive tailored assistance.

Here are some reasons why having a circle of support is essential:

1. Emotional support:
Our support systems can provide us with empathy, understanding, and encouragement when we face emotional struggles, such as anxiety, depression, or grief. They can offer a listening ear, advice, and reassurance that we are not alone.

2. Practical support:
The Y community support services can offer practical help when we face logistical challenges, such as moving, or illness. They can provide us with financial assistance, childcare, transportation, or other resources that can alleviate stress and help us overcome obstacles.

3. Social support:
Our support system can provide us with a sense of belonging and connection to others. Organisations like the Y Inclusion Services create opportunities to socialise, have fun, and build meaningful relationships, which can enhance our social and emotional well-being.

4. Accountability:
The Y and other support systems can hold us accountable for our actions and goals, which can help us stay motivated and focused on our priorities. They can provide us with constructive feedback, guidance, and encouragement to help us achieve our goals and live up to our potential.

5. Resilience: Our support system can help us build resilience and cope with stress and adversity. They can offer us different perspectives, coping strategies, and hope, which can help us bounce back from setbacks and overcome challenges.

In summary, a strong support network is crucial for lifelong wellbeing. It can help provide us with emotional, practical, and social support, and resilience, to help us navigate life’s ups and downs with greater confidence. It’s essential to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with our support system, whether it’s family, friends, colleagues, or mentors, as these networks can make a significant difference in our lives.
