At The Y Inclusion Services, one of our most important goals is to empower people with a disability to access a variety of inclusive and innovative programs. Empowerment involves providing people with the necessary skills, knowledge, resources, and support to take charge of their lives, make decisions, and take actions that improve their wellbeing and reaching their goals.
Important benefits of empowerment include:
Improved wellbeing
Empowered individuals are better equipped to manage their lives, make decisions that align with their values and goals, and cope with challenges and setbacks, which can lead to greater wellbeing and resilience.
Increased self-belief
Empowerment can boost an individual’s sense of belief in their ability to accomplish tasks and achieve goals. This can lead to increased motivation, confidence, and a greater sense of control over their lives.
Community development
Empowerment can lead to community development by fostering collective action, collaboration, and a sense of shared responsibility. This can lead to more cohesive communities and positive social change through diverse community input.
The Y Inclusion Services offer a variety of personalised supports, services and programs which provide the foundation for people to achieve their goals and empower them to lead dignified lives. These include:
1:1 Home Support
Our 1:1 Home Support service helps people with a disability learn and maintain the skills needed in their own home to enable independence. This can include assisting individuals with life skills such as personal care, cleaning, cooking, shopping, paying bills and using technology.
The Y also offers 1:1 Overnight Support Services, where our support workers stay at a participant’s home to provide support as required throughout the night. We can provide NDIS Home Support services before, and after overnight shifts.
1:1 Community Support
Our 1:1 Community Support service aims to increase the confidence and self-esteem of a person with a disability in the community. We help them understand and learn independence, and daily living skills while accessing a wide range of activities.
Our 1:1 disability support worker can accompany a participant on their activities and experiences out in the community. This can include local walks, grocery shopping, going to lunch or a movie, attending appointments, and engaging in volunteer work or education.
1:1 Social Support Groups
We offer social group programs across greater Melbourne, with 1:1 support, or for people with 1:3 – 1:5 support needs. These groups are designed to foster friendship, connection and encourage fun experiences for everyone:
